Kerala is in the midst of an unprecedented flood havoc. The calamity has caused immeasurable misery and devastation. Many lives were lost. Hundreds of homes were totally destroyed and many more were damaged. For the first time in history, 27 dams in the State had to be opened. Never before had the State witnessed a calamity of this scale. In the fight against the flood, we have braved the odds. Now it is our duty to help the affected rebuild their lives. This is the 2nd worst flood after 1924. 13 out of the 14 districts severely affected. 23 bridges collapsed, 35 dams opened, 164 lives lost, 211+ landslides, 50000+ houses damaged, 10197 km of PWD roads damaged, 60000 KM of LSG roads damaged, 4000 transformers, 17 substations shut down to avoid accidents, 30000 hectre agricultural loss amounting 770 Crore, 2 lakh farmers affected, Nedumbassery Air port closed, 23 helicopters for rescue operations, 100 + teams of Army Navy, coast guard and NDRF, 2.25 lakh people rescued, 1568 rescue camps running.
